Why is this more expensive than painting kits on Amazon?
Most $10 kits are laser-cut plywood or MDF: flat shapes, burnt edges, and you still need to buy paints. Ours is a hand-carved solid basswood bird with real volume, plus 24 markers, 12 paints, brushes and a painted guide in one box. You spend less in total, and you end up with something you actually want to keep.
Is it a good gift?
Yes, it is the reason most people order two. No skill needed, nothing else to buy, and the finished bird becomes a small keepsake the person made themselves. The 2-kit set is one to keep, one to give.
I'm honestly not artistic at all. Will I enjoy this?
Yes. The carving, the hard part, is already done. Each bird comes with a painted reference, so you copy a few colours onto a shape that already looks like a bird. If you can colour inside a line, you are already qualified.
Is the wood really carved by hand?
Yes. Each bird is carved from solid basswood (linden) by craftspeople in small batches, then lightly sanded. That is why no two are exactly alike and why they feel nothing like a flat laser-cut shape.
What if I am not satisfied?

How long does one bird take?
20 to 40 minutes on average. Some people finish one on a coffee break, others spread it over two evenings. No timer, no rules.
Markers or paints?
Both are in the full kit. Markers are the fastest and cleanest: no water, no palette, dry in minutes. Paints give softer blends. Most people start with the markers and add paint details later.
Do I need to seal or varnish the bird?
No. Acrylic dries matte and permanent on wood. If you want a glossy finish, any clear acrylic spray works, but it is optional.
Is it suitable for kids?
The kit is designed for adults and teens, but children from about 6 can paint along with an adult. The markers are water-based and wash off hands.
